BretzDesign, formerly djb designs, was formed in 1996 by Daniel J. Bretz. Initially, djb was just a side business maintained while Bretz pursued a career in the ad agency community and gained an intimate knowledge of the industry.
While gaining experience as Art Director and then Creative Director, Bretz recognized that the traditional client-agency relationship was not ideal for a variety of clients. In addition, agencies need outside help in solving its’ creative challenges. Realizing this, and the need for design that interacts with its users, Bretz decided to pursue his ideals as a independent firm specializing in graphic design and usability.
In the fall of 2001, djb designs became a full-time, full service graphic design and creative thinking agency. In the fall of 2003, the name was changed to BretzDesign—which is wholly owned and operated by its founder.
